About the author

I am full professor in the philosophy department at Université Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis. I have published essays and fictions and collaborated on several films and installations. My approach is determined by a conceptual use of fiction. I use fiction, the imaginary, to address elements that eludes our usual philosophies.

A lot of my recent work has focussed on contemporary technologies and new media. It analyzes the imaginary dimension that it emerged from cybernetics and continues to guide the development and reception of contemporary dispositives.

I'm also interested in what is little, or poorly, conceptualized, on the margins of philosophy: laziness, phobias, seasides, fashion and clothing...
My early work, which later led me to focus on the imaginary part of our concepts, concerned the history of philosophy in France around Cavaillès, Bachelard and Foucault.

I was born in Tunis in 1971. From 1991 to 1996, I studied mathematics and philosophy at the ENS, rue d'Ulm, in Paris. After defending my thesis in philosophy in 1999, I was appointed research fellow at the CNRS, where I remained from 2001 to 2011. I am also co-editor of the journal SubStance..
